Wedding Videographer Questions
Forget about "years of experience".
They need to be able to answer these questions intelligently.

Do you use 3CCD camcorders?
(ANSWER: Yes, Yes, Yes - No Substitutes)

What are your lighting needs for the ceremony and reception?
(ANSWER: Even the best professional camcorders need a decent amount of light.  I need more than Christmas lights and candles.  Give me as much light as possible without ruining the mood.)

Will you attend the wedding rehearsal to check the layout, lighting and audio setup?
(ANSWER: I always attend the rehearsal when possible.)

Do you use wireless microphones for the groom and/or pastor?
(ANSWER: I do use wireless mics and tap into the house sound board to use their audio feed when available.  Can you put me in contact with the audio technician at the ceremony venue?)

Will you bring any backup cameras and microphones?
(ANSWER: Yes, I am always prepared for technical difficulties.)

How early will you set up before the wedding ceremony?
(ANSWER: At least one and a half hours before so I am settled 30 minutes prior to the ceremony.)

Wedding Videographer Red Flags
Clues
that can help you decide if you should look for a more professional wedding videographer.

He uses cheesy wipes and canned effects in editing.  Professional wedding videographers primarily use cuts, dissolves and clean-looking graphics.
(Bottom Line: If the demo video looks tacky, then don't expect any better for your video.)

He does not ask about setting up a camera on stage for close-ups at the wedding ceremony.
(Bottom Line: He should fight for the best angles, sound and lighting.)

He only shows you wedding highlight reels and never offers to show a completed wedding video.
(Bottom Line: Always ask to see a final edited video to check for editing, sound and lighting)

He never runs through a checklist of wedding day questions with you.
(Bottom Line: If he's not doing his homework on your wedding, then he's asking for problems on your wedding day.)

He is quick to give you a cheap wedding video deal.
(Bottom Line: Good wedding videos take a lot of time and good equipment.  If he's not making money, then he is not giving you his best work.)
